President Obama took a moment on Thursday afternoon to call and wish good luck to Dewey Bozella, a 52-year-old boxer making his professional debut on Saturday night after spending 26 years in prison for a murder he didn’t commit.
“Honored & humbled. A man who inspired me, President @barackobama, just called to wish me luck. Dreams do come true,” Bozella tweeted.
Bozella was falsely convicted of murdering a 92-year-old woman in 1977 and spent 26 years at New York’s Sing Sing prison before his conviction was overturned. He was released in October 2009.
An amateur boxer as a youth, Bozella nourished his passion for the sport in prison by working out in a space previously used for executions. He will make his professional debut at cruiserweight against Larry Hopkins on the undercard of Bernard Hopkins (no relation) vs. Chad Dawson at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
THAT WAS NICE BUT REALLY I HATE HIM
